What is the role of the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC)?

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) is an Australian government agency responsible for leading the country’s efforts to secure government and critical infrastructure networks against cyber threats. The ACSC was established in 2014 and is part of the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), which is responsible for foreign signals intelligence and information security.

1. Cyber security advice: The ACSC provides guidance and advice on how to protect against a range of cyber threats, including phishing, malware, and ransomware.
2. Incident response: The ACSC provides a rapid response service to help government agencies and critical infrastructure providers respond to and recover from cyber security incidents.
3. Threat intelligence: The ACSC collects and analyses cyber threat intelligence to inform its own operations and to provide advice to government agencies and critical infrastructure providers.
4. Cyber security awareness: The ACSC runs a range of cyber security awareness campaigns and resources to educate individuals and businesses about how to stay safe online.
5. Certification and accreditation: The ACSC provides certification and accreditation services for government agencies and critical infrastructure providers to help ensure they meet the necessary cyber security standards.

The ACSC also works closely with international partners and other Australian government agencies to share information and coordinate responses to cyber threats. Its mission is to make Australia the safest place to connect online, and it plays a critical role in protecting the country’s digital infrastructure and information assets.
